Masha Gessen on the arrest of a Governor in Russia
The E.U. After Brexit. We know the euro is structurally flawed. Either it will federalize along Varoufakisian lines (central fiscal body tranferring funds from surplus states to deficit countries; democratic body underpinning this; mutualized debts; clamping down on tax havens etc) or Germany will attempt to kick the can down the road and have a gold standard type system where deficit countries suffer horrific deflation and “internal competitiveness” reforms. Let the games begin!
Lessons for the Democrats from Brexit.
Bonus: How Britain Voted on Brexit. An exit poll from Lord Ashcroft, whose focus groups have made for fascinating reading (as has John Harris’ reports from around England).
